Deep in last winter, in January 2024, we invited some friends over with one directive. It was to be a BYOC evening — bring your own chair, of course. The guests included a few of our favorite local woodworkers and craftspeople working in traditional chair forms.
The evening was a banger. We ate, we imbibed, and we talked all about chairs. At the end, we didn't want it to be over. So, we started brainstorming ways to both make an evening last longer and to welcome more people into the conversation.
This spring, for the month of May, we'll be doing just that. During Take A Seat, we are showing four chairs made by four craftspeople. In the lead up to the opening, we'll be sharing more about each maker: John Glagola, Eric Conroe, Mike Billeci, and John Porritt. Together, they cover half a millennia of chairmaking techniques and styles, from green woodworking to leather work.
The opening of the show will be a conversation with the chairmakers and an opportunity to take a seat and learn about making them. We hope you'll join us May 3rd from 5-7pm, and RSVPs are required. Email info@quittnerhome.com to reserve your spot.
