The Tension of Fall: A Slow Down, Sometimes by Force.

One of the things we love about fall is that it forces our communities to slow-down. We actually sit for the morning cup of coffee, wait for the car to warm up before pulling out of the driveway, and pad around silently, footsteps muffled by thick wool socks.

At the same time, there is a sense of, well, impending panic. As a retail business that sells objects, the approach of the holiday season is palpable. We regularly make 30-40% of our annual sales in the last few months of the year, so as our bodies are inviting us to relax into a slower season, our brains and hands and stomachs are engaged in a very different experience. The hands part, at least, feels good. We pour and fire, wire and finish, sew and weave.

And a lot of our focus is going towards filling the table. We designed The Palatine Collection,  porcelain tableware inspired by archaeological finds found in Germantown dating back to the Palatine arrival in 1710, for full tables and hearty meals.

We're producing at maximum capacity right now to be able to bring a full spread to the Basilica Farm + Flea Holiday Market in Hudson, NY November 29 through December 1, and the Stissing House market in Pine Plains, NY December 14 and 15.

Before both of those, we have a fun little gathering planned in our store, the Quittner Warehouse, on November 9th. Join us  in putting our local Town Historians on the spot from 6-8pm, asking them all the questions that have piled up over the past 12 months. RSVP to info@quittnerhome.com requested.
