How far can thrown porcelain be pushed? When we designed our bestselling porcelain pendants, we grounded beauty in practicality. We sought out forms that were beautiful, simple, strong, and that looked as good as a single in a butler's pantry as in multiples over a kitchen table.
Working in thrown porcelain, as many a potter will know, is an adventure. The material — sort of clay, but in many ways fundamentally different — has memory. It will work with you up until you make a mistake, and then it will often seem to actively be working against you. Whereas a white clay or stoneware takes to adjustments, porcelain laughs in your face and insists that you start over. It's frustrating and beautiful, and everything in-between.
Ever since releasing the Porcelain Pendants, though, we've been pushing the material further with the goal of going bigger.
The Large Dome, released this week, is the result of months of effort, years of planning, and over a decade of experience and training.
The Large Dome is 11.5 inches in diameter, 2 inches larger than the classic pendants. What is the big deal about two inches? It's the difference between accenting a space, and carrying a room. That's a big deal. It is also available in two metal finishes: natural brass that will patina with time and polished nickel.
We invite interior designers, and homeowners, to experience the light in person in our showroom. It will soon, too, be hanging at FAIR in the New York Design Center on Lex.
Each piece is hand-thrown and detailed to order. The lead time is 10-12 weeks.
