What we do at Quittner is mostly hidden from view. Ben is hard is designing, building, and restoring in the workshop, and Aleah and Lily are pouring, throwing, glazing, and firing in the ceramics studio. Both are private activities, best executed without an audience.

Late this fall, we had the pleasure of letting photographer Stephanie Zollshan in behind the curtain for The B, a magazine focused on the Berkshires. She was able to see every step in the process of making our Classic Crock Vases, from throwing through to unloading the kiln after a glaze firing.

Watching Aleah work on the wheel is especially magical. Most of us at Quittner have ceramics experience, especially on wheel. Aleah, though, is a true master. Her ability to transform clay into large forms that are both uniform and individual is mesmerizing.

We were also able to share what goes on when we are designing new pieces, especially examining objects we love and digging into academic and historical references.

Thank you to Stephanie for being a warm addition to the studio for an afternoon, and thank you (yes, YOU) for supporting our ability to do this crazy beautiful work.
